Chris Iannetta sat out Wednesday’s game due to a bruised right foot. He hit a foul ball off the foot over the weekend. After receiving treatment for the injury on Tuesday, he expects to be ready to return on Wednesday. “It swelled up on the flight here. It’s not a big deal,” Iannetta said. (Rotowire)

Chris Iannetta went 2-for-3 against the Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon. Iannetta doubled and drove in a run. Iannetta’s teammate Yorvit Torrealba has a small tear in his left meniscus, the Rockies’ official web site reports. Torrealba will not immediately go on the DL, but he will miss at least a few more days. Iannetta should start almost every day with Torrealba sidelined; Adam Melhuse was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to serve as his backup. Iannetta is the team’s starting catcher and despite a .266 average does have hits in four straight games with two homers in that span. Iannetta should be starting in most mixed Fantasy leagues. Chris Iannetta hit cleanup on Wednesday for the second straight game. The Rockies are in a bind because of injuries/illnesses (Todd Helton and Garrett Atkins would be better bets to hit cleanup if they were healthy), but this is still a show of respect for Iannetta, who ranks third in home runs among major league catchers despite a part-time role. Iannetta ended the night 1-for-4 with a double, and was replaced for a pinch runner in the bottom of the eighth. (Rotowire)

Chris Iannetta homered for the 14th time this season and fifth since the All-Star break on Tuesday. However, he is 3-for-23 (.130) in August and he has evenly split the Rockies’ last 12 starts with Yorvit Torrealba. Iannetta has shown very good power this season with a homer every 16.1 at-bats. If he can improve his batting average and his defensive ability, he could grow into a true everyday catcher with the ability to hit 25-30 home runs. (Rotowire)

Rockies C Chris Iannetta broke a scoreless tie Saturday with a leadoff homer in the third inning of a loss to the Padres, his 13th. Iannetta has taken over as the Rockies’ regular catcher and has excellent power numbers for a player at the position. But as a young player, he’ll slump from time to time. Still, he should start in most mixed Fantasy leagues. (CBS Sports)

Chris Iannetta went 0-for-3 in the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader and is 2-for-22 in his last seven games. He has split the Rockies’ last eight starts with Yorvit Torrealba. Iannetta had gained a clear edge in this platoon, but his slump is eroding his advantage. Still, he has a lot more short and long-term upside than Torrealba and it helps that the Rockies are essentially planning for next year already. Iannetta has taken over as the Rockies’ regular catcher and has excellent power numbers for a player at the position. But as a young player, he’ll slump like this from time to time. Chris Iannetta blasted a three-run homer in the fifth inning Wednesday to lead the Rockies over the Pirates 7-4. Clint Barmes got things going for the Rockies with a sac fly in the second inning that scored Troy Tulowitzki. Matt Holliday followed with an RBI single in the third, then the Rockies plated five runs in the fifth, with the highlight being Iannetta’s dinger. The bullpen held onto the lead and Brian Fuentes pitched a flawless ninth inning, fanning two, to earn his 18th save of the season. Iannetta is hitting .276 with 12 homers and 44 RBI in 203 at-bats this season. (Rotoworld)

Chris Iannetta went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday’s 11-0 rout of the Reds. He has hit safely in seven straight games and in 12 of his last 13 contests. Four of his 11 homers have come in July. After a rough 2007, Iannetta is now living up to his prospect status. (Rotowire)

Chris Iannetta delivered a two-run homer, an RBI single and a walk Thursday in the Rockies’ 5-3 defeat of the Pirates. The dinger traveled approximately 400 feet and came on a broken bat swing. His home run broke a 3-all tie, and it came off of a bat Iannetta said he cracked in his previous at-bat. “I think the bat was already broken. Maple bats, you can’t always tell,” he said. “I hit it good. I was a little surprised the bat broke.” Iannetta has a lot of power and continues to gain the Rockies’ short- and especially long-term favor. Iannetta has run away with the starting job just like the Rockies hoped he would last year. He’s hitting .281 with 10 homers and 37 RBI in 171 at-bats. In 2007, he had just four homers in 197 at-bats.
“I didn’t feel like myself and I couldn’t explain why,” said Iannetta, who hit just .218 last year and spent time in Triple-A. “I’d swing at balls that I would normally would hit well and swing right through it. This year I’m getting the same pitches and I’m able to barrel them up.” This year he’s hitting .281 and feeling confident. He’s also showing more power. With the kind of upside and numbers he has, he deserves to start as a No. 1 Fantasy catcher. (Rotoworld, Rotowire, CBS Sports)

Rockies C Chris Iannetta, recently promoted into an everyday role, went 1-for-4 on Friday at the Mets. He now has a five-game hitting streak during which he’s batting .300 (6-for-20) with two home runs. OK, so Iannetta’s hot streak doesn’t make him the hottest thing since high tops, but the 25-year-old has more power potential than most and deserves to start in just about every Fantasy league. Chris Iannetta started on Wednesday for the 21st time in Colorado’s last 33 games. He continues to build his advantage over veteran Yorvit Torrealba, who might be traded later this month. Iannetta tripled and knocked in a run for his third extra-base hit and seventh RBI in his last four games. (Rotowire)

Rockies C Chris Iannetta smacked his ninth homer of the season Saturday in a 12-6 win over the Marlins. He now has homers in back-to-back games. Iannetta splits starts with Yorvit Torralba behind the plate in Colorado, but he has shown plenty of potential in his limited at-bats. His starting value clearly lies mostly in NL-only formats right now, but he’s worth having on your bench in deeper mixed leagues in case he earns himself a full-time job. (CBS Sports)

Chris Iannetta started on Tuesday for the fifth time in the Rockies’ last six games. His platoon with Yorvit Torrealba has ebbed and flowed, but the long-term trend favors Iannetta, who has started 17 of the Rockies’ last 25 games. Iannetta’s prospect status and trade rumors involving Torrealba further swing the balance in his favor. Iannetta hit .308 in June with three homers and 10 RBI in 52 at-bats. (Rotowire)

The Rockies built the five-run lead Monday on a three-run double by Chris Iannetta in the first and a three-run homer by Brad Hawpe in the third. Iannetta is one of the up-and-coming catchers in Fantasy. There is real pop in his bat and he is earning more regular starts for the Rockies lately. Consider him a nice add in Rotisserie formats and we wouldn’t be surprised if he is a must-start in all Fantasy leagues by midsummer. (Rotoworld)

Chris Iannetta’s platoon mate, Yorvit Torrealba, wants to be traded, he told the Tigers’ radio network before Sunday’s game at Detroit. Torrealba’s desire to be traded isn’t surprising, because he is a veteran locked in a roughly even timeshare with the younger Iannetta. It’s questionable whether another team will want the 1.5 years and $5.25 million remaining on Torrealba’s contract. Obviously, Iannetta’s playing time could be boosted significantly if the Rockies find a taker for Torrealba.
