Chipper Jones Back After Two-Week Absence

Chipper Jones returned to action Tuesday and went 0-for-3 against the Pirates. Jones started at third base in a game with no DH available, but given that a strained oblique tends to be a much bigger factor in the batter’s box than on the field, he probably would have done that anyway. He missed two weeks because of the injury. (Rotoworld)

Lindstrom Resumes Throwing Program

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Marlins closer Matt Lindstrom (rotator cuff tendinitis) resumed a throwing program Monday. Barring any setbacks, Lindstrom could be available for opening day. Lindstrom has a great arm and is a nice sleeper in deeper mixed formats at the closer position. He needs to prove healthy and show some polish, but far lesser arms have thrived in Fantasy as the Marlins closer — namely the traded Kevin Gregg. Consider him a sleeper in the late rounds right now. Linceceum Shaky But in a Good Rhythm

Giants SP Tim Lincecum, the 2008 NL Cy Young Award winner, gave up three doubles and a single while allowing three runs in six innings of work Monday against the Mariners. He issued one walk and recorded one strikeout. “I was in a good rhythm. Not too quick, like I was last time,” said Lincecum, who had been pushed back from a previous start because of the flu. He has a 3.78 ERA this spring. Lincecum led all of baseball in strikeouts last season, so a one-strikeout performance seems unlike him. No need to worry, though. The 24-year-old is a clear Fantasy ace and a top-three starting pitcher. Expect him to go within the first three rounds of any Fantasy draft. (CBS Sports)

Headley Plays the Hero over Royals in Cactus Action

Padres OF Chase Headley hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday to lift his team to a 9-7 victory over the Royals. Headley finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and is batting .271 this spring. Headley was a top prospect, but his development has come along slowly in the majors so far. That ballpark in San Diego doesn’t help him much, but he has the potential to hit 20-plus homers. Consider him a sleeper in all Fantasy leagues, though he doesn’t appear on the verge of a big breakout. (CBS Sports)

Theriot In Mid-Season Form This Spring

Cubs SS Ryan Theriot went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored Monday against the Athletics, raising his spring batting average to .432 (19-for-44). He also drew a walk. Theriot doesn’t have much natural ability, but he did hit .307 and steal 22 bases last season. The Cubs trust him as their starting shortstop, so he should score a decent number of runs, if nothing else. Consider him a decent late-round middle infielder, especially in Rotisserie leagues.
