Johnson Decent in Final Start – Comeback a Success
Josh Johnson yielded two runs over six innings in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday night. It wasn’t the prettiest game for Johnson, as he allowed six hits and three walks while only recording one strikeout, but he gave his fantasy owners a boost with good ERA and the win. A fine last start in what has to be considered a successful season for Johnson. In 13 starts since making his return from Tommy John surgery rehab on July 10, Johnson went 7-1 with a 3.61 ERA and 77-to-27 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 87 1/3 innings. He’s definitely a good bet for success next season. (Rotoworld, Rotowire)

Myers Ends 2008 On a Down Note
Brett Myers allowed six runs — four earned — on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Braves on Wednesday night. This after coughing up 10 runs in four innings his last time out. Myers’ regular season ends on a sour note, which is unfortunate considering what a good story he’d been, having returned from a demotion to the minors to go 7-2 with 1.80 ERA over his first 11 starts back. He finishes 10-13 with a 4.55 ERA overall. (Rotoworld)

Iannetta Knocking in Runs Again
Chris Iannetta went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run on Wednesday. He has 13 RBI in September, second only to his 17 in July. Iannetta has proven over the last few weeks that he can be an everyday catcher. He probably won’t get that chance next season — Yorvit Torrealba (who is currently on the DL) should gobble up two or three starts per week — but Iannetta is an interesting sleeper nonetheless. Teixeira Homer Fuels Angels Comeback Victory
Mark Teixeira went 4-for-5 and homered with two outs in the eighth inning to help the Angels to a comeback victory Wednesday night. Teixeira is hitting a robust .309 with 33 homers and 120 RBI. If the Angels and fantasy owners can afford him, keep him. (Rotowire)

We’ve Begun the "Kirk Gibson-izing" of Chipper Jones
Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer in a fifth-inning pinch-hit appearance on Wednesday night. It was the third time in four days that Jones has appeared as a pinch-hitter. Apparently his shoulder is still not well enough for him to start, but well enough for him to yank big homers. Jones (shoulder) may be forced to spend the rest of the season as a pinch-hitter, the Braves’ official site reports. “I tried to throw and it took all that I could muster to throw the ball 90 feet across the infield,” Jones said. “Obviously, if there was a play down the line, I doubt very seriously that I’d be able to make it.” He also said that he feels some pain while swinging from the right side of the plate. This may be something he needs to address via the medical establishment during the offseason. (Rotoworld, Rotowire)

Ayala Torched in Effigy. What? Oh, That Was Actually Him?
Mets acting closer Luis Ayala lost his 10th game on Wednesday against the Cubs. Derrek Lee blooped a go-ahead double in the 10th inning off Ayala, Aramis Ramirez followed with a two-run homer and Chicago rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat the Mets 9-6. Ayala went two innings and allowed three runs on three hits. He struck out two. Ayala has a dreadful ERA and he’s a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option down the stretch for the Mets. He will likely enter 2009 as just a middle reliever. (CBS Sports)

Lowry Experiences Setback – Shut Down Again
Noah Lowry has been shut down again because of elbow pain. Lowry hasn’t pitched this season after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on the nerves in his left forearm and had been hoping to participate in winter ball. “You’re concerned, when he’s had the setbacks he’s had,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “We do have all winter to get it right and get him on track. It’s got to be hard for him. He’s got to be discouraged and frustrated.” (Rotoworld)

Maine Activated from DL, May Contribute to Bullpen
Mets activated RHP John Maine from the 15-day disabled list. Maine will try to help the Mets as a reliever after spending the last month nursing a sore shoulder. (Rotoworld)
