Johnson Gets Shaky Win Over Myers, Phillies
Marlins SP Josh Johnson won Friday against the Phillies despite giving up a season-high six runs, five earned, in five innings. He allowed seven hits and one walk, striking out six. He has won three of his last four decisions. Johnson has racked up the strikeouts in his return from Tommy John surgery and looks like a nice sleeper for 2009. In fact, he could probably start in most mixed leagues right now. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at Washington. (CBS Sports)

Myers Lit Up Against Johnson, Marlins
Brett Myers allowed 10 earned runs over just four innings Friday as the Phillies fell to the Marlins. Myers pitched a two-hitter against the Brewers last time out but struggled mightily against the Fish tonight. He walked two and let up nine hits while watching his record fall to 10-12 and his ERA jump to 4.46. “One of those days,” Myers said. “Everything I threw up there, they hit. They’re really confident right now. They don’t believe anybody can stop them.” Analysis: Myers entered with a 7-2 record and 1.80 ERA in 11 starts the All-Star break, reemerging as a Fantasy ace after spending some time in the minors. He clearly still deserves to start in Fantasy despite his awful start Friday. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Braves. (Rotoworld, CBS Sports)

Iannetta Launches 18th Homer
Chris Iannetta belted his 18th homer of the season during Friday night’s victory over Arizona. Iannetta has come into his own this season. He had only six career homers entering 2008. He also has 61 RBI in 309 at-bats this year and a .271 batting average, which are strong numbers for a catcher.

Reyes Leads Off With Another Homer
Jose Reyes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run to lift the Mets over the Braves Friday and help them maintain a 1/2-game lead in the NL East. Reyes led off the game with a homer in the top of the first inning. The Braves answered with two in the second, but the Mets turned up the heat from there and cruised to victory. Reyes also swiped a base tonight, his 52nd of the season. It may be too late for him to turn around an awful September, but Reyes could play a huge part in getting the Mets to the playoffs if he can find a little consistency. (Rotoworld)

Blanton Pitching Through Tendonitis
Joe Blanton revealed Friday that he pitched through biceps tendinitis during the month of August. Blanton is 2-0 with a 4.53 ERA in 11 starts as a member of the Phillies, but he had a stretch of rough starts beginnng on August 13 that can probably be blamed on the tendinitis. “Any time you’re not comfortable, you try to do different stuff,” pitching coach Rich Dubee said. “You try to correct it and you compound the problem.” (Rotoworld)

Gerut Takes First At-Bat Since August
Padres OF Jody Gerut (finger) did not return to the starting lineup Friday at Washington, but he did appear as a pinch hitter, going 0-for-1. He had not played since Sept. 6 and hadn’t taken an at-bat since Aug. 27. Gerut has enjoyed a renaissance, but he is too banged up to start games for the Padres or any Fantasy teams down the stretch. He might have done enough to be a super reserve outfielder in deeper formats in 2009, though. (CBS Sports)

Maine Throws Simulation Game – Not Yet Ready
John Maine (shoulder) threw a one-inning simulation in a bullpen session on Saturday, though pitching coach Dan Warthen wants to see more of his right-hander before considering activating him, the NYPost.com reports. Maine will most likely throw in one more bullpen session before being activated from the DL, putting him on the Mets’ roster by the middle of next week. We expect him to get some relief work, if only a few innings, before the end of the season. (Rotowire)

Jones Departs in Fifth Inning with Sore Right Shoulder
Chipper Jones left Friday’s game in the fifth inning with a sore right shoulder. He’s day-to-day again. Chipper was 0-for-3 before being replaced by Gregor Blanco. (Rotoworld)
