Uh-Oh. Webb Lit Up for Third Straight Start
Brandon Webb was rocked for a third straight outing Saturday, allowing seven earned runs in 5 2/3 innings to the Dodgers. Webb has lost some ground in the Cy Young race and, more importantly, the Diamondbacks have fallen to second place behind the Dodgers in the NL West. He surrendered five hits and walked six while seeing his ERA rise to 3.41. The D-Backs have to be worried that there’s something physically wrong with him. Manager Bob Melvin denies that something is wrong with Webb, but clearly something is up. He walked a career-high six batters on Saturday and now has a 12.51 ERA over his last three starts. It wouldn’t surprise us to learn that Webb is dealing with some type of arm soreness. We’ll see how he fares against the Reds next week. (Rotoworld, Rotowire)

Wellemeyer Cruises in Eight Innings Against Marlins
Todd Wellemeyer pitched eight innings of three-run ball to beat the Marlins on Saturday night. Wellemeyer fanned seven in his longest ever start. His previous high was 7 2/3 innings in a win over this same Florida team last month. Wellemeyer is 12-6 with a 3.74 ERA in 28 starts. That’s not bad for a pitcher who was given up on by the Cubs, Marlins and Royals before even receiving his first major league start. Wellemeyer has not allowed more than four runs in his last nine starts and is starting to look solid on the hill once again. (Rotoworld)

Marquis Defeats Reds, but Bullpen Almost Blows It
Cubs SP Jason Marquis walked five men on Saturday against the Reds but as Chicago won 14-9, it didn’t really matter as he picked up his 10th win. Marquis (10-8) allowed two runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings. He struck out two. Marquis is 4-1 over his last six starts and has been an excellent pitcher of late for the Cubs. He can have the occasional high strikeout night and he’ll give you consistency for a contending team. He’s certainly a viable starting Fantasy pitcher in deeper mixed leagues. His next scheduled start comes Friday at Houston. (CBS Sports)

Gonzalez Coughs Up More Non-Save Situation Runs
Mike Gonzalez gave up three runs in the 10th inning Saturday to take a loss against the Nationals. Gonzalez is still 39-for-39 converting save chances over the last four years, but he has a few poor outings recently, two of which resulted in losses. It’s usually his command that does it when he gets into trouble, but he gave up a homer, a triple and a double tonight. If not for the quick hook, he could have allowed four hits for the first time in 212 career appearances. Gonzalez has struggled in non-save opportunities and has a 4.26 ERA overall. The Braves don’t give him enough save opportunities for you to put up with that nonsense. Consider him a last resort for saves. (Rotoworld)

Teixeira Now Only Hitting .360 for the Angels
Angels 1B Mark Teixeira went 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored Saturday at the White Sox. He’s batting .333 (8-for-24) over his last five games. The last five games have actually lowered Teixeira’s batting average during his time with the Angels to .360. He’s having his usual second-half surge and should remain active in all Fantasy leagues. Fielder Hits Brewers’ Only RBI Against Peavy
Milwaukee 1B Prince Fielder was one of the only Brewers to have a decent day at the plate Saturday against Jake Peavy and the Padres. Fielder drove in the only run of the game — the Brew Crew won 1-0 — as he went 1-for-3 with a double. He added a walk. Fielder hit only .228 in August and hasn’t begun September much better. He’s obviously not this bad, but he’s not the MVP candidate we saw last year either. Consider him on the low end more than the high end of No. 1 Fantasy 1B. Still, he’s got a lot of power. Wilson Gets Lengthy 37th Save
Brian Wilson picked up his 37th save of the year in shakey fashion, giving up one in 1.2 innings against the Pirates on Saturday night. Wilson gave up three hits. It was the longest save outing by Wilson since he got five outs against Milwaukee on Aug. 25, 2007. (Rotowire)
