Teixeira Literally On Fire. No, Figuratively.
Angels 1B Mark Teixeira went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Thursday’s win over the Tigers. He now has seven RBI in his last four games. Big Teix is smoking hot at the plate right now and plays for the best team in baseball. Continue to start him in all formats. (CBS Sports)

Gonzalez Gets Ninth Save
Braves closer Mike Gonzalez got three outs to complete Atlanta’s seventh shutout of the season Thursday against the Nationals. Gonzalez struck out the side after Ryan Zimmerman’s leadoff double. Gonzalez has converted all nine of his save opportunities this season and 39 straight overall, the longest current streak in the major leagues, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He has not blown a save since June 25, 2004, for Pittsburgh at Cincinnati. Still, because he pitches for the lowly Braves, he remains a low-end Fantasy closer. (CBS Sports)

Jones Returns, Reaches Base Four Times
Chipper Jones singled and walked three times Thursday in his return to Atlanta’s lineup. Jones missed two starts with a minor knee injury. Jones said the soreness in his knee was minor, so it looks like he’ll be back in the lineup this weekend. (Rotoworld, Rotowire)

Gerut Might Miss Another Week
Jody Gerut, who hasn’t played since suffering a sprained ligament in his finger August 27, could miss another week, the Padres’ official site report. Manager Bud Black isn’t ruling Gerut out of the rest of the weekend series against Milwaukee, but he doesn’t sound very hopeful either. Black hopes Gerut can return for Tuesday’s series opener against the Giants, but it might be wise to keep Gerut reserved in weekly leagues next week. (Rotowire)
