Wellemeyer Goes 7-2/3 for Shutout Victory
Todd Wellemeyer hurled 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball as the Cardinals defeated the Marlins 3-0 on Thursday night. Wellemeyer allowed only three hits while walking four and striking out three in his longest and best outing of the season. Wellemeyer retired 13 straight hitters at one point before walking Hanley Ramirez with two out in the eighth. The Marlins went without a hit between Dan Uggla’s lead-off single in the second and Luis Gonzalez’s two-out single in the eighth. He’s now put together a string of four straight quality starts. Wellemeyer hasn’t pitched into the seventh lately aside from Thursday but he’s gone at least five in eight straight starts. He’s pitching well right now for St. Louis and should continue to do so as the Cardinals contend. Right now he’s considered to start in Fantasy in most weeks on deeper mixed Fantasy rosters. Wellemeyer is now 10-4 with a 3.79 ERA. In three August starts he’s 2-0 with a 1.77 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. (Rotoworld, Rotowire, CBS Sports)

Now That’s What We Paid $31 For!
Brett Myers allowed three runs in seven innings but still lost against the Dodgers on Thursday night. Myers allowing five hits while striking out eight batters and walking just two. He’s lowered his ERA to 5.02, which is down 0.80 points since he re-joined the team. All but his first start were of the quality variety. fter that miserable start to the season that got him demoted to the minors, Myers has emerged as a must-start Fantasy SP again, looking like the same guy who dominated more often than not in 2005 and 2006. Pick him up if he remains unowned in your league. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Nationals. (Rotoworld, CBS Sports)

Jones Returns from Stomach Virus
Chipper Jones went 1-for-5 with an RBI in Thursday’s loss to the Cubs. He had missed Wednesday night’s game to a virus, but he appears to be over it. He’s batting .333 (6-for-18) with a home run since returning from a hamstring injury. He’s batting .333 (6-for-18) with a home run since returning from a hamstring injury. (Rotoworld)

Iannetta To Get More Starts with Torrealba Injury
Chris Iannetta went 2-for-3 against the Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon. Iannetta doubled and drove in a run. Iannetta’s teammate Yorvit Torrealba has a small tear in his left meniscus, the Rockies’ official web site reports. Torrealba will not immediately go on the DL, but he will miss at least a few more days. Iannetta should start almost every day with Torrealba sidelined; Adam Melhuse was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to serve as his backup. Iannetta is the team’s starting catcher and despite a .266 average does have hits in four straight games with two homers in that span. Iannetta should be starting in most mixed Fantasy leagues. Coste Slumping in the Summer
Phillies C Chris Coste went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout Thursday at the Dodgers. He’s now batting .138 (4-for-29) since July 27. Coste was hitting as high as .330 when June began, but his average has since dropped to .270. He loses some starts to Carlos Ruiz and is at best a No. 2 Fantasy catcher. (CBS Sports)
