Teixeira Launches Two Against Mariners
Mark Teixeira, who gave the Angels a 3-1 lead in the third with a two-run homer against Felix Hernandez, hit another leading off the bottom of the ninth against closer J.J. Putz to tie it. It was Teixeira’s 21st multihomer game and third this season. “He’s swinging the bat well, and tonight showed he’s a clutch hitter,” Torii Hunter said. “He came through with two big home runs.” Big Tex is having another strong second half and is a must-start first baseman in all Fantasy leagues. Keep him active through thick and thin. (CBS Sports)

Moss Settling In With Second Homer for Pittsburgh
Brandon Moss hit his second home run as a Pirate on Wednesday. Moss continues to see plenty of playing time in the Pirates outfield. Entering Wednesday, he was hitting .175/.273/.300 in 11 games as a Pirate. He should benefit from the extra playing time, but his value is limited to deep leagues this year. Moss had five hits in his first five games with the Pirates since being acquired in the Jason Bay trade, but then had just two hits in the next six games. He broke out of the funk Wednesday and let’s hope he can have continued success. (Rotowire, CBS Sports)

Hart Streaking with 3-for-5 Night and 3 RBIs
Corey Hart went 3-for-5 with three RBI as the Brewers topped the Padres on Wednesday night. All three RBI came on a triple in the fifth inning, and helped the Brewers win their eighth consecutive game. Hart now has 16 RBI in the first 13 days of August. Hart is having a little bit of a resurgence in trying to regain his good numbers from last year where he posted a .295/.352/.539 line. As it stands currently, he sports a .289/.326/.503 line that looks to be getting slightly better each week. (Rotoworld, Rotowire)

Headley Extends Hit Streak With Double
Padres 3B Chase Headley went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and a run scored in Wednesday’s loss to the Brewers, extending his hit streak to eight games. Headley is 11-for-27 (.407) during his streak with two homers, five RBI and six runs scored. The rookie Headley had a 10-game hitting streak earlier this season, but didn’t have a multi-hit game in that span. This latest streak is by far his most impressive run this season and he is showing the type of potential he brings to the table. He’s a solid young talent worth holding on to in deeper mixed keeper leagues and starting in deeper NL-only formats. (CBS Sports)

Maine Returns, Staked to a 10-Run Lead, Gets "W"
John Maine pitched five shutout innings Wednesday in his return from the disabled list. Maine let up just one hit and struck out six. He walked four, but worked easily out of jams. Maine was bolstered by a Met attack that gave him an early 10-0 lead and he was removed after throwing 90 pitches. Maine’s ERA fell from 4.13 to 3.97 and he’ll face the Pirates next. Maine reported some soreness in his right shoulder following his five-inning start Wednesday, probably a lingering effect from the rotator-cuff strain that landed him on the disabled list back on August 3, the NY Newsday reports. he soreness was not enough to prevent Maine from pitching, but there is no predicting how much of a factor that discomfort could become in the future. Maine will have a better read on the shoulder Friday, 48 hours after this start, as he prepares for his next one. Maine’s velocity was more in the 91-93 range than his usual 96 mph, and while he hopes that the velocity will return over time, there is no guarantee it will given the shoulder soreness. Marquis Solid in Finally Defeating Braves
Cubs SP Jason Marquis (8-7) gave up two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday for his first win against Atlanta, his first major league team. Marquis was 0-3 with a 14.04 ERA in his first four starts against the Braves. Marquis struck out one and walked two in the 10-2 victory. Marquis has now won two straight starts after going six straight without a victory. He had a decent 3.81 ERA in July, but no wins to show for it, so his owners will be glad he finally got some run support on Tuesday. Marquis is likely to get two starts next week if he goes Tuesday and Sunday, but that’s not set in stone yet. He remains best left for NL-only Fantasy leagues and super-deep mixed formats when he’s getting two starts, even when those starts are against bad teams like Cincinnati and Washington. (CBS Sports)

Blanton Remarkably Average Against Dodgers
Joe Blanton was remarkably average against the Dodgers on Wednesday night, giving up four runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings. He struck out six, walked three, and gave up two homers. After watching his counterpart Brad Penny get hammered, Blanton actually kept the Phillies in the game despite the numbers. He struggled and needed 97 pitches just to get through five innings. Blanton left with a 6-4 lead after five innings Wednesday against the Dodgers, but the bullpen faltered in the late innings and cost the right-hander a win. (Rotowire, CBS Sports)

Bergmann Doused in Sulphur, Spontaneously Combusts
Jason Bergmann gave up 10 runs — six earned — in the Nationals’ loss to the Mets on Wednesday night. Bergmann allowed eight hits and six walks in one of his worst starts of the year. An eight-run third was the biggest dagger, but he didn’t look good in any of the innings he pitched. Bergmann’s season-long lack of run support continued, as the Nationals were creamed, 12-0, but Bergmann didn’t help himself by setting a new career high in runs. His ERA rose to 4.51 and his record now sits at 2-9. Far and away the worst outing of the season for Bergmann, the man still has an ERA under 5.00 after this fiasco. He’d been pitching pretty well prior to Wednesday and we certainly don’t expect a repeat of this performance next week. That said, he pitches for the Nationals so wins will always be hard to come by. He is a two-start pitcher in Fantasy Week 21 (Aug. 18-24) but that makes him a viable option in only the deepest of mixed Fantasy leagues. His next scheduled start comes Tuesday at the Phillies and he’ll finish the week at the Cubs. (Rotoworld, Rotowire, CBS Sports)

Morton Battered Like a Pinata by Cubs
Charlie Morton allowed four runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss against the Cubs on Wednesday afternoon. Not exactly the outing the Braves were looking for in the first game of a double header. Morton needed 70 pitches to make it through the outing, and while he did manage three strikeouts, he issued four walks. The rookie had allowed just two runs in 14 innings in his last two outings, but he has another tough matchup against the Mets in his next start. (Rotoworld)

Hot Fielder Hits 28th Bomb
Prince Fielder hit his 28th bomb of the year while going 1-for-3 with two walks in the Brewers 7-1 win over the Padres on Wednesday night. Fielder is in the midst of a modest three game hitting streak while the Brewers have won eight in a row. (Rotowire)

Jones Sits Second Game with Stomach Virus
Chipper Jones is out of Atlanta’s lineup on Wednesday night due to a stomach virus. Perhaps of more concern is that Jones said prior to Wednesday’s game that his legs are still not at full health. “My hamstring’s great. My quad is still pretty sore,” Jones said. Martin Prado replaced him at third base on Wednesday night. (Rotoworld)

Reyes Paces Mets’ 12-0 Win
Jose Reyes went 2-for-6, to bump his average back to .305, and scored twice in the Mets’ 12-0 win over Washington. Reyes has now scored 85 runs and stolen 40 bases, and usually, as he goes, so goes the Mets offense. (Rotowire)

Theriot has Another Multi-hit Game, Steals 18th
Cubs SS Ryan Theriot had a nice game in the second of a day-night doubleheader against the Cubs on Wednesday — both Chicago victories. Theriot went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. He also stole his 18th base of the season. Theriot is a slap-hitting basestealer worth considering in all Rotisserie leagues. He lacks power and run-production potential, though, which makes him a lower-tier option in Head-to-Head points leagues. (CBS Sports)

Iannetta Batting Cleanup Due to Ability, Injuries
Chris Iannetta hit cleanup on Wednesday for the second straight game. The Rockies are in a bind because of injuries/illnesses (Todd Helton and Garrett Atkins would be better bets to hit cleanup if they were healthy), but this is still a show of respect for Iannetta, who ranks third in home runs among major league catchers despite a part-time role. Iannetta ended the night 1-for-4 with a double, and was replaced for a pinch runner in the bottom of the eighth. (Rotowire)

Lincecum Sure He’ll Make Scheduled Start
Tim Lincecum said Wednesday that he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start. Giants manager Bruce Bochy agreed, saying he was “99 percent” sure Lincecum would start against the Braves on Sunday. Lincecum left Tuesday’s game after getting hit in the leg by a comebacker, but the resulting bone bruise won’t keep him sidelined. (Rotoworld)
