Myers Solid Against A-Ball Players in Final Rehab

Brett Myers gave up two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings Friday for Single-A Clearwater. Myers will be called up to start Wednesday against the Mets. He had a 5.84 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP over 17 starts before he was optioned to Triple-A. Myers had a good amount of success in the minors, but shouldn’t be considered a strong fantasy option. Gerut Homers, Steals PT from Hairston

Jody Gerut went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk as the Padres’ leadoff hitter on Friday. Scott Hairston is second on the Padres in homers, but he’s getting fewer at-bats of late with Gerut holding his own offensively. There’s very little fantasy upside here, in no small part because of the Petco effect, but Gerut has done a solid job against right-handed pitching and should continue to start. Even though he doesn’t run as well as he used to, he’s quite an upgrade over Hairson on defense. (Rotoworld)

Maine Shaky with Five Walks Against Reds

John Maine allowed five earned runs over 4 2/3 innings Friday as the Mets fell to the Reds. Maine walked five and has now looked pretty awful over two consecutive starts. He managed five strikeouts, but needed 102 pitches to get through the short outing. His ERA sits at 4.22 and his record drops to 8-7. Hopefully he can get things figured out in time for his next start against the Phillies. (Rotoworld)

Headley’s Streak Snapped

Chase Headley had his seven-game hitting streak snapped Friday night in St. Louis. Headley was 10-for-26 in the streak and had hit safely in 17 of his previous 18 games before going 0-for-4. Headley is an elite young talent and is definitely a sleeper in deeper Fantasy leagues. Take a flyer on him if he’s available in your league. He’ll look to start another streak on Saturday.
