Phillips Leads Reds Over Hapless Nationals

The Reds scored all of their runs with two outs, three driven in by Brandon Phillips, and Cincinnati capitalized on a Washington error to rally for a 5-3 victory over the Nationals. “Two-out hitting is something we haven’t done much of lately — or earlier,” Phillips said. Jeff Keppinger was walked intentionally to load the bases in the seventh inning, and after Ken Griffey Jr. popped up, Phillips lined Luis Ayala’s first pitch down the right-field line for a two-run single. “I was just trying to come through,” Phillips said. “I got a pitch I could drive. I didn’t get all of it, but it had good placement.” Phillips finished 3-for-4 with one run Thursday. He extended his hitting streak to seven games. Phillips is 14-for-25 (.560) with one homer and nine RBI in that span. Phillips was having a hard time at the plate through the first few weeks of June, but seems to have regained his form. Phillips remains one of the elite Fantasy options at second base. He does it all from hit for power to stealing bases. (CBS Sports)

Reyes Has Run-In with Seinfeld’s Keith Hernandez

The New York Post reports that Jose Reyes and mustached announcer Keith Hernandez had to be separated on the Mets’ team charter on Sunday night. Reyes was supposedly told by friends and family members that Hernandez accused the Mets of “babying” him after he threw his glove in the dirt after a throwing error in Sunday’s game. “I’m not too happy with the way he’s been talking,” said Reyes on Thursday. Both men say that the issue was more of a conversation than a confrontation. (Rotoworld)

Lincecum Silences Hot-Hitting Cubs

Tim Lincecum held the Cubs to three runs over six innings as the Giants went on to an 8-3 victory on Thursday night. Lincecum struck out eight and walked one. He improves to 10-1 on the season and has won his last six decisions. The Giants scored four runs in the second and got a pinch-hit three-run homer from Rich Aurilia in the seventh to break open their lead. (Rotoworld)

Unlucky Webb Gets No Decision vs. Brewers

Brandon Webb was charged with five runs in six innings Thursday in a no-decision versus the Brewers. Webb was quite unlucky in the game. The two second-inning runs scored on a wild pitch that should have been handled — and almost certainly would have been with Chris Snyder, not Robby Hammock, behind the plate — and on a grounder that Mark Reynolds bobbled. Webb later allowed a two-run homer to Mike Cameron in the sixth that appeared to be foul. It clearly passed on the wrong side of the foul pole, but there is a chance if might have grazed the pole. Webb wasn’t great today, but he was better than the line suggests. (Rotoworld)

Andruw Jones to be Activated for Friday

Andruw Jones (knee) is expected to return to the Dodgers prior to Friday’s game. Jones has been out since undergoing surgery at the end of May. With Juan Pierre headed to the disabled list, Jones will return to center field with Matt Kemp going to right and Andre Ethier going over to left. Delwyn Young will be the team’s fourth outfielder. Blanco Extends Modest Hit Streak

Braves OF Gregor Blanco went 1-for-4 with a double Thursday against the Phillies, extending his hitting streak to a modest seven games. He is hitting .483 (14-for-29) during that stretch. Blanco has raised his average from .242 to .274 in that span. Blanco has been a decent stopgap option for the Braves in their injury-depleted outfield, but he remains more of an NL-only Fantasy option. (CBS Sports)
