Meet the New Guy: Sean Marshall
Sean Marshall will start for the Cubs on Tuesday, taking the roster spot of Carlos Zambrano. In three starts since missing time with a hamstring issue, Marshall has allowed just five runs in 16 innings, including an eight-inning, one-run effort on Thursday. He’ll likely make just two starts, against the Orioles and White Sox, before Carlos Zambrano returns, but could have short-term value in NL-only leagues. (Rotoworld)
Marshall was also on the 2007 Atomic Roadrunners. He was acquired for $6 FAAB on May 29th, 2007 (OF Todd Linden was cut to create the roster spot). Welcome back Sean!

Say Goodbye To: Greg Reynolds
Again. Greg Reynolds’ next start has been moved back a day, to Sunday at Detroit, according to the Denver Post. The Rockies will take advantage of Thursday’s off day to give Reynolds an extra day of rest. Colorado is gathering several veteran starting pitchers in Triple-A and Reynolds has only a tenuous hold on a major league rotation spot. (Rotowire)

Bergmann Finally Pitches Well, Still Doesn’t Get Win
Jason Bergmann allowed one run in seven innings, but didn’t factor into Monday night’s decision. Bergmann left with a 2-1 lead, but Saul Rivera allowed two runs – one earned – in the eighth to take the loss and the blown save. Bergmann was very solid, though, allowing just six hits, striking out six and not issuing a walk. In his last two starts, Bergmann has allowed just two earned runs in 13 innings, but a quick look through his game log shows he’s been too inconsistent to trust. This was Bergmann’s first truly ‘good’ start in June, so you might want to see him do it again before you put him back in your active lineup. “That’s the way it happens sometimes,” Bergmann said. “Seldom do you ever have an inning where it’s just a clean hit here, a clean hit there for one run. Usually there’s an error or something involved. That’s just the way baseball is.” Analysis: Bergmann took the no-decision rather well for someone who hasn’t gotten much help all season. He has now allowed one earned run or less in five of his 10 starts but has only one win to show for it. The sinkerballer can be downright unhittable one start and a complete disaster the next, limiting his Fantasy appeal to deeper leagues. (Rotoworld, Rotowire, CBS Sports)

Chipper Jones To Miss Next Few Games
Chipper Jones is expected to miss at least the next two games after re-injuring his quadriceps. He missed his third consecutive game on Monday, but manager Bobby Cox says he might be ready to DH against the Blue Jays on Friday. The time off will likely do him good: his average dropped from .420 to .393 since suffering a small tear in the muscle on June 7. (Rotoworld)

Lyon Cruises Through Red Sox – 5-Pitch Save
Diamondbacks RP Brandon Lyon made fast work of the Red Sox in the ninth inning Monday for his 16th save during a 2-1 win. Lyon needed just five pitches for his second save since June 8. He has tossed two perfect outings after getting tagged for four runs June 17 against the A’s. The Diamondbacks have struggled for wins in the last few weeks and that’s why Lyon hasn’t had many chances to close out games. However, they still lead the NL West and will likely contend for the West crown the remainder of the summer. Lyon remains a high-end Fantasy RP. (CBS Sports)

Spilborghs Heating Up (Finally) in June
Rockies OF Ryan Spilborghs had two singles and one RBI in four at-bats Sunday against the Royals. He started for the first time since June 18. It was his first multi-hit game since June 6. Spilborghs received plenty of starts in late May when Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe were on the DL. Both players have since returned, and Spilborghs is back to his role as a pinch hitter and reserve outfielder. He remains just a NL-only Fantasy flier at this time. (CBS Sports)
