Doug Davis tossed a four-hit shutout Tuesday to lead the Brewers past Los Angeles 9-0. Davis, 10-9, walked one and struck out eight in his third career shutout. He retired the last 16 batters and wound up throwing 121 pitches — 76 for strikes.

Jason Bay went yard twice to lead Pittsburgh past Chicago 6-5 on Tuesday. Bay drove in four runs in total while also drawing a walk. He’s batting .289 with 31 homers.

In his first appearance since returning to the closer’s role, Jose Valverde struck out the side with a four-run lead in the ninth Tuesday against the Marlins. Valverde did walk one in the inning, but it was still a successful outing, even if it didn’t result in a save.
