Overnight Dispatches

From Rotoworld, Rototimes:

Kerry Wood received another opinion on his right shoulder from a specialist on Monday. Wood is trying to avoid surgery on his shoulder and is seeking several expert opinions. The latest specialist had no new information for the Cubs’ starter. He will seek yet another opinion this week before deciding if he will undergo surgery or attempt to heal the shoulder through rest. He is expected to miss the season even if he doesn’t have surgery.

Despite the bruised right hand, Carlos Marmol is expected to make his next start, according to the AP. Marmol bruised the hand being jammed on a pitch while swinging during his last outing.

Chipper Jones missed another start on Monday because of his sore left oblique, according to the AP. Though the Braves are hoping that Jones will return within the next several days, oblique injuries are often nagging and cause trips to the DL.

Jeff Kent, on the DL since July 18 due to a strained left oblique, isn’t expected to swing a bat for about another week. Kent isn’t eligible to return until Aug. 2. It might be a few days after that before he can come back.
