Overnight Dispatches
From Rotoworld:
Jeff Kent went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a walk in Wednesday’s 7-1 win over the Rockies. Kent was intentionally walked in the bottom of the eighth with the Rockies down by six runs. Some would call it respect. We call it idiocy.
Doug Davis held the Reds to two runs and five hits over seven innings to win on Wednesday night. Reds manager Jerry Narron made things easier on Davis by sitting both Adam Dunn and Felipe Lopez, even though the team has Thursday off. Davis’s K/BB ratio remains putrid (40/42 in 63 IP), but he is pitching better lately. He has a 3.38 ERA in five starts this month.
Joe Borchard, who entered in a 2-for-24 slump, hit a three-run homer off Greg Maddux on Wednesday. Borchard is hitting .197 as a Marlin, but he does have three homers and 12 RBI in 66 at-bats. While he’ll get fewer at-bats now that the Marlins have Jeremy Hermida back, manager Joe Girardi will keep mixing him in at all three outfield spots.
Kerry Wood had some stiffness in his shoulder following his start Tuesday and might not pitch Sunday as planned. Right now, [Sunday's starter] is to be determined,” manager Dusty Baker said. “We’re going to see how he feels after two outings. He was a little stiff [Tuesday]. We’ll see if he’s going to feel good enough to do it on Sunday or if he needs to skip a turn.” Wood could start Tuesday, with either Glendon Rusch or Jae-Kuk Ryu pitching Sunday in his place. Wood owners will likely have to deal with this stuff all year. The alternative would have him spending most of the season on the DL.
